Oh My Ghost

Oh My Ghost/ Oh My Ghostess/ 오 나의 귀신님/ O Naeui Gwishinnim *** (Korean)
16 episodes
Kim Seul Gi as Shin Soon Ae
Starts off funny as anything, then it starts skirting darker issues until finally the issues become so great and dark they must be confronted and dealt with. Was a speedy ramp up for that last bit, then I guess it all went back to an even keel for the ending, ..almost felt like a letdown, even though it wasn't really. Favorite character(s): The ghost Soon Ae, her brother Gyeong Mo, and Seo Joon, A quiet and even-tempered assistant chef in the restaurant.

A Shy and frightened girl, Na Bong-Sun, able to see ghosts, gets possessed by a rather rambunctious virgin ghost looking to fulfil her 'grudge' before her time is up and she becomes a an evil spirit. She then gets to know the chef of the restaurant the girl works at.. a man of vitality, and aims all of her effort into taking him to bed. Meanwhile, the reason for Soon Ae's death unremembered, a darkness waits to strike once again and the key to the truth lays unseen on the pages of a forgotten journal.

Nine Tailed Fox

Nine Tailed Fox/ Forbidden Love/ Fox with Nine Tails: Fox with Nine Tails/ Gumiho/ 구미호 외전 (九미호 外傳)/ Gumiho Wehjun ** (Korean)
16 episodes
Park Joon-Suk as Rang
It could have been better. It was interesting in that even their secrets had secrets. But it felt like the foxes as, a folklore concept in modern day, were being treated a bit too much like the classic vampire.. even to the point of poofing into dust at a mortal strike. Tragic ending. Favorite character(s): Rang the foxy yo-yo master for his role as a mostly sweet and rather caring support warrior.

A young girl at her best friend's/first love's birthday party gives and receives and gives a locket gift just before pandemonium breaks out resulting in the the death of all adults there. she is then taken and raised as a warrior with a small group of Gumiho's, feeding off corpse's liver for survival. But the head of the group has a plan which might just result in a great change for the foxes in their relationship with the humans.. as well as much blood to be shed on all sides as the plan comes to fruition.

Healer

Healer/ 힐러/ Hilleo ***\ (Korean)
20 episodes
Kim Mi Kyung as Detective Jo
Yoo Ji Tae as Kim Moon Ho
Park Min Young as Chae Young Shin
Ji Chang-Wook as "Healer"
The story was involved and interesting from the start clear to the very end. The comedy is light and in context. The romance is beautiful and slightly clumsy. Even the acting and music were spot-on. A truly well put-together drama that not many review descriptions have managed to live up to imo. Tragedy should be expected. Favorite character(s): The Hacker behind the Healer and patience/love itself in the form of an adopter dad.

The story got underway with the formation of a group of budding journalists running illegal broadcasts concerning a subject of well hidden length. They truly had no idea how big the iceberg was when they first took a chip,.. or just how far the hidden enemy was willing to go to keep those chips hidden.
There is a rather famed reporter, still rather bitter/guilty for staying quiet for so long concerning that past time and looking for a child many years grown by now. He utilizes a night errand man to help him. The infamous Healer, who is the best in his business, discovers the sought-after girl, with a bit of help from his boss and master hacker, Ajumma Jo. and there is this woman, a famed reporter wanna-be who chases after a bag thief, only to eventually be caught by her own heart.
This mutual love could prove to be a rather dangerous one though, as the enemy is a large wasp nest of manipulation and string-pulling and seeks their weaknesses to either pull them down completely or change their allegiances to something a bit more favorable.

Not too bad for a live action rendition. That butler was sure wicked quick with a butter knife, wow. Favorite scene(s): the Butler dance of death in a room full of enemy targets.

The young Earl of the corporation is a watchdog or investigator of sorts for the western side queen. In the Earl's company is a proficient butler/bodyguard who holds a demonic contract for when the Earl dies. 12 episodes
Jung Hae In as Ahn Min Seo
Jung Yong Hwa as Park Dal Hyang
Lee Jin Wook as Crown Prince So Hyun
Yang Dong Geun as Heo Seung Po
A rollicking good re-telling, Joseon style, of a French novel by the same name. Well worth seeing imo, even if the King was a bit... too-much a lot of the time.. and really, Dal Hyang (D'Artagnan) should have been added to the musketeer roster at the end imo. Well acted and good adaption. Favorite character(s): Seung Po (the comical Porthos)

Kim Soo Hyun as the alien Do Min Joon
First episode for me was a pass. Came back for another round and was hooked. Good story! Ok, so the whole goodbye thing seemed to drag a bit, but they managed to keep it moving along with the twists of the plot and the handsome/beautiful faces of the characters in the story. And Yes, I did laugh and giggle at all of the E.T. references. Prickly and impassioned meets apathetic tenacity equaling a worthy mix.
Favorite character(s): The lawyer, friend, and 'father' figure, of Do Min Joon.
Favorite scene(s): The drunken moments of the Alien and that of the actress in turn. The kiss aftermath, expected but no less funny for the frustrated yowls of the girl at having to suddenly bear his weight.

An Alien, having lived in South Korea for over 400 years, is getting ready to leave on schedule, when he chances across a woman who looks quite remarkably like a girl he once knew long ago and he falls in love while seeking to protect her from a wealthy and near untouchable killer.

The Night Watchman

The Night Watchman/ Night Watchman's Journal/ Records of a Night Watchman/ Diary of a Night Watchman/ 야경꾼 일지/ Yakyungkkoon Ilji ** (S.Korean)
24 episodes

Wonderful story! ..right up until about the 17th episode, when the good guys somehow became incredulously dim and for a time there, I totally lost connection with the tale and began to howl in frustration at the unbelievability. Particularly the female shaman, who seemed to walk brainlessly into the enemy's hands, not once, but more then three times! This in spite of having been told beforehand that the powerful snake priest was wanting to use her for his plans. I also didn't understand, Knowing this bad guy was super bad and powerful, and Knowing they -had- to have more people to help, did they try repeatedly, to go against him with but a single person? Even givin their tendency for self sacrifice, this was the equiv of throwing their lives away for the achievement of nothing what-so-ever. The child who played Rang Yi did a wonderful performance. Favorite scene(s): the introduction of the grown prince, enjoying his time with a ghostly guarded prostitute.

The good king, in efforts to right the wrongs committed by several vengeful ghosts, obtained a special flower at the cost of his sanity and eventual death of much of the royal family and court. The dowager and prime minister lift up the second of the two princes for king, in spite of knowing full well that only the one being ousted from the palace could be the rightful king. Years later, the prince, now grown, is enjoying a life of purposeful ignorance when the dreaded snake priest shows up and worms his way into the palace with intent to re-raise a dragon to smite those who stood in his path. The prince is brought to the 'reality' of the situation and revives the legendary night watchmen to help battle the corrupted spirits plaguing the palace and thwart the priest's evil schemes.

Not a bad story. I rather enjoyed the confidence of the safe/lock picker, Ji-Hyeok, and how he managed to guide them around a tricky 'sting' vs a powerful man. Favorite character(s): Koo-In

Ji-Hyeok along with two others, get together and pull off a diamond job, only to be forced into service for an elite company owner with his eyes set on stealing money from the customs storage. I Hear Your Voice

I Hear Your Voice/ I Can Hear Your Voice/ 너의 목소리가 들려/ Neoui Moksoriga Deulryeo **\ (Korean)
18 episodes
Kim So Hyun as a young Hye Sung
Kim Hae Sook as Hye Sung's mom

Before you think it, having read other drama reviews for this one, (if you have). It -is- a Courtroom drama type, and yes, the lawyers do take on cases that seem practically hopeless. But, that's not even half of what this drama is made of. All of the character's are well-rounded and expertly acted out, and the storyline/plot is well woven throughout the whole thing, including the many seemingly unrelated cases they take on.
Favorite scene(s): So Ha's determined love and all-encompassing desire to protect Hye Sung... Someone who stood with him when no other would, even under certain threat of death and.. the poop-on-the-car incident that had two lawyers dashing madly around a pub table and yelling.

Hye Sung, the daughter of a Judge's housekeeper, is accused of setting a firework off in the face of the lawyer's daughter. After school, she set to prove to Do Yun the error in accusing her, when they see a terrible car crash and murder. A frightened Hye Sung shows up in court as witness for the only surviving victim, a young boy claiming to be able to hear peoples thoughts just by looking at their eyes. Several years later, she has become a jaded defense lawyer, and is called on to defend against the murderer from the past.. but she is not alone this time. She has the help, and sometimes hindrance, of fellow lawyer and love interest, Kwan Woo and a set of cops looking to do right by keeping a watchful eye on them. There is also Soo Ha, now just out of high school, who has once more appeared on the scene and is quickly of invaluable help. Will Min Joon Gook, now free from prison, be returning to fulfill his words of revenge on them?

Children...

Children.../Ahyideul.../ 아이들... (Korean)
Movie 132mins
Don't let them fool ya. This Korean film is nowhere close to being in a fantasy romance genre. No real favorite scenes or characters for this one. Just really felt for the children and parents... And a fair bit of understanding for the frustration of the local law as well. Horrible tragedy involved.

5 Young children are out for a day of doing what kids love best.. playing. While they are at it, the township is having an election so it is a bit of time before anyone -really- notices the children have not returned from the nearby mountain. From there it turns to panic, then desperation, then bitter tears as days slowly turn into months then years. Then along comes a prize-winning producer hoping to get back on top of his game with a new sensational story. Along with a conspiratorially-minded professor, The two work up quite a furor in town.

Movie 109 mins
Ju Ji-Hoon as Kim Jin-Hyuk
Good story. There are a few suggestive and underwear scenes in this movie. As argumentative and alluring as Jin-Hyuk and Sun-Woo are, throughout the film, their mutual chemistry/bond was perfectly strong. It did rather have a creepy overtone to the whole, concerning the news broadcasts but it kept the plot moving along even as the shop dealt with the day-to-day mishaps and foibles.

A boy is kidnapped, and mysteriously reappears two months later with little to no conscience memory of the time. Having grown, he opens a cake shop, hiring a school classmate for patisserie who studied in Paris.. and with his own set of trouble and quirks. Then comes along an ex-lightweight boxer with a love for the cakes created by Sun woo. And the clumsy 'bodyguard' who somehow finds his place in the bakery.
And somewhere out there, was a kidnapper and murderer of young boys, looking forward to another sweet bite.

Movie 117 mins
Lee Si-Young as Song Hyeon-Hwa
Good fun. I liked how well-organized the family was... calmly talking of plans, practice, complaining over the lack of meat, and little brother begging to be let in on it all, at the dinner table. Favorite scene(s): overwhelming smooches and the last-ditch rescue of big brother.

Mom is making supper, dad is giving a lecture, big bro is playing piano for his music class and younger bro has a test. Once the sun goes down, the little family breaks out the dark clothing and makes plans for a visit to a wealthy villa, the proceeds of which then go to the city's poor, in an age-old legacy. One day, the music teacher's intended is kidnapped and he decides to break it off with her.. for everyone's safety. The girl's brother also has crises when the warrant he needed is flat-out denied and his thoughts of a grand collar falls through.

Lee Min-Ho as Jo Jung-Kyu
The two little girls in this drama well deserve acting awards for this drama imo. Not to say the others weren't amazing as well, just that Yeon Yi stole the limelight every single time she appeared. Not really a romance.. although there was a fair bit of passion. There are also several tragic death's with a sad ending (along with an incredibly loong soliloquy) I soo felt for the ever-supporting mute guy. Favorite character(s): Yeon Yi, her boyfriend, and Chun Woo.

A Gumiho, trying for 10 years to reach humanity, misses the mark when her hubby spills the beans and she is forced cross-country with her just-shy of 10 year old daughter. After a run-in with a tiger, and then a persistant hunter, They are taken in by a 'benevolent' gentleman with a fairly hostile household. Still, they try to stick it out for a time... eventually getting wound up in a web of deceit, as a local shaman manipulates the family, who are desperate to find a cure for their sick daughter.

A bit of comic relief, a bit of romance, all wrapped up in a heavily vengeful plan. Favorite character(s): the funny underling and secretary of Lee Cha Don and the loan shark 'gentleman' mother.
Favorite scene(s): messing with the cell-pal's food and.. spiriting away the money from before the oblivious faces of the watchful enemy.

A father who doted on his son, snarled at his wife, and kept a famous actress mistress, is set up for a fatal last day by two legal types, the mistress, and a reporter. Jin Yi Han as Hong Young Hwi

A medical time story, semi-romance based on Japanese manga story. The Korean version could have been a little less gross about the operations, I thought, without effecting the solidity of the storyline. Well I survived and hung on through the blood, guts,n gore clear to the end and, all in all, it wasn't that bad of a drama. Favorite character(s): the death defying brother.

A neurosurgeon removes a fetus from a mystery patient's brain, only to fall off a building and find himself many years in an alternate past. There, he meets and gets entangled in deadly political intrigue, as a relative of royalty covets the throne for his son, and the removal of an old ruling clan. The poor doc is in a race against time and the age, all while trying hard to keep the girl who looks exactly like his sick girlfriend, safe, keep history on its correct course as well as to follow his doctor's instincts to save life for those in need, no matter their rank or what side they might be on..
